About Me

About Me	I’m a third-year pre-med undergraduate student at the University of Houston. I was born in Houston but grew up in Canada, so I’d say both places shaped me. I’ve known that I want to be in healthcare since my second year of high school, and welcome the advice of people who have been in my shoes before! I’m currently working towards applying to medical school and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me 🙂

Special Interests and Hobbies	I love to read, and am currently interested in space operas penned by women, who I find are somewhat underrepresented in the sci-fi genre. Since the pandemic, I’ve tried to teach myself a few new hobbies, and recently knitted a giant blanket. Also, I believe that the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is the greatest movie in the history of mankind.

My Goals for This Year

My goals for this year are mostly academic, along with my preliminary steps of preparing for medical school!

1. Strengthen my GPA by doing well in Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry 2, and Physics 2.

Cell Biology: Use the textbook more efficiently! It’s very dense and I can find myself getting lost in all the information.
Organic Chemistry: Complete more practice problems instead of just reading about them.
Physics 2: Get used to doing the work without having to look back at my notes constantly.

2. Study for and take the MCAT for the 1st time.

Create a more streamlined schedule as my tentative summer test date gets closer.
Stay motivated! It can be easy for me to miss the forest for the trees, and I need to remind myself what I’m working towards.

3. Begin a preliminary application for medical schools.

Start drafting a personal statement.
Look into medical school that fit the type of student I am and what I find important.
