Biology Basics

Welcome to the lesson on ‘Biology Basics!’ Despite its name you’re about to get a pretty detailed look at some of the concepts tested on your first Biology Midterm in undergrad. If you’re reviewing this content as part of getting ready for the MCAT… just to warn you, it won’t be comprehensive enough. This is a very brief course designed for a student who wants to get an idea of first semester topics before starting their first semester of Biology.

This Lesson Has 4 Tasks

  1. Read our Article on Biology Basics! Please just lightly read the article. The point isn’t to make you memorize everything there. It’s just to give you an idea of the topics you’ll be encountering early in the semester.

  2. Assignment 1: Take a look at Nature Magazine. They are a fantastic research journal that includes many Biology research articles.

  3. Assignment 2: Find a free Biology documentary that you’re interested in at this great website. The study of Biology is a lot easier if you’re having fun while you learn. Documentaries are a great way to do that!

  4. Assignment 3: You’ll need to have a really good resource to do problems when studying for the MCAT. I highly recommend The Berkley Review or Kaplan. IMO Biology and Biochemistry are two of the most important subjects for the MCAT, as they reflect your overall health science knowledge the most.

  5. Pass the Exam Below!

You are allowed to refer to your materials while taking the exam. Remember you need a minimum passing score of 80% to pass the exam, but you are allowed to complete as many retakes as you want. You can also ask for help on your exam! You can ask for help in the High School Mentoring group or on the activity feed.
